n00b is a pretty harsh insult.
That is, the use of n00b can be considered a shorthand version of "Hello, I am mentally handicap. I am alerting you to this fact in case you might make the mistake of thinking anything I say has value, because it most assertively does not." in most cases. Whether it is a parody of the dregs of the internet or an unfortunate occurance of such is up to the individual.
There's a fine line between poor taste in slang and abortions of the English language that only serve to make you look stupid for using them seriously.

Just because a word isn't listed in the Webster's Dictionary doesn't mean it isn't a "word".
You've just said so yourself that it's under widespread usage, so yeah, that'd mean it's a word.

Wrong. Widespread usage does not a new word create. It's called a fad. Nothing more. Lookup the dictionary standards body website and read what it actually entails when a new word is coined, standardized in English, and then put into the archives of words that are neither archaic (no longer in use and accepted as modern usage) and those that are yet to be instated.
The dictionary is just like the internet, it has a standards body of people who manage it. Fact of life.

Sorry, but you're wrong here.
Widespread usage of "invented" words has caused them to be put into the dictionary to make them "official" words.
Take the word "chav" as an example. I'm not sure where you're from, but "chav" is a word used in the UK to describe little pikey youths who wear tracksuits - you may know this already, I'm not sure.
Either way, the word used to be an invented slang, but now it's been added to the Oxford English Dictionary. So, in this instance, widespread usage of an invented word has caused it to become an official word, recognised by the authorities - therefore making it a new word, and not a fad. This is just one example of this happening; it happens all the time, in fact almost every time they update the dictionary another former slang, invented word becomes official.
